Job #149644 for
(Matt Sherry)
2010 Dodge RAM 1500
Invoice #27982
Technician:
None
Concern:
CUSTOMER STATES, THE ENGINE IS MISFIRING. THEY WERE TOLD BY ANOTHER SHOP THAT IT WAS MISFIRING ON CYLINDER #5. THEY TRIED REPLACING SPARK PLUGS, COIL, AND FUEL INJECTOR ALREADY AND BELIEVE IT NEEDS AN ENGINE BUT DIDN'T RUN A COMPRESSION TO VERIFY. PLEASE CHECK AND ADVISE. TECHNICIAN RECHECKED TO ENSURE THE VEHICLE HAD SPARK AT THE PLUG AND FUEL GETTING TO THE CYLINDER BEFORE RUNNING THE COMPRESSION TEST. WE RAND A DRY COMPRESSION TEST AND FOUND CYLINDER #5 TO HAVE ABOUT 117 PSI, WE COMPARED IT TO CYLINDER #1 AND FOUND IT HAD ABOUT 170 PSI. WE DID A WET COMPRESSION TEST TO HELP DETERMINE IF IT IS A PISTON RIGHT OR CYLINDER WALL ISSUE AND FOUND LOW COMPRESSION ON CYLINDER #5 STILL. TECHNICIAN BELIEVES THIS ISSUE IS CAUSED BY A COMMON PROBLEM WITH LIFTERS THAT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CAM SHAFT LOBES. TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE ENGINE WITH A NEW OR USED UNIT. **THE CUSTOMER HAS BEEN INFORMED AND HAS DECLINED FURTHER REPAIRS AT THIS TIME. THIS CHARGE IS FOR THE DIAGNOSIS PREFORMED.**
